November Birthdays

President steps down, Vice President position up for grabs!

As you know, Amanda M. had to step down as President last month. Amanda has served on the board since 2017 and as President since June 2019. Amanda brought great spirit, kindness and an open mind to the role. We are very grateful to have experienced her leadership and we thank her for her time and support. We wish her every success with her new adventure!

As I have transferred into the President role the Vice President position is open and needs to be filled. The board will therefore be accepting nominations for Vice President from now until Sunday, November 22nd. The VP primary goal is to raise funds for the assistance and continuation of philanthropic endeavors. Here are the main duties:

  • Performs minimum of two fundraisers (or fewer if approved by the board), like the Panera Bread fundraiser, to assist with philanthropic endeavors throughout the calendar year;
  • Presents fundraising ideas to group for democratic vote at monthly meetings;
  • Recruits volunteers within the active membership for fund raising participation and completion;
  • Coordinates two new member potlucks per year;
  • Assumes presidential duties if and when the standing President is unable to fulfill them, until a democratic election can be held.

If you would like to learn more about the position or would like to nominate yourself or another member for Vice President, please email the board no later than Sunday November 22nd. If only one name is submitted for the position, the board will vote to approve the nomination via zoom. In the event that multiple people run for the position, a virtual voting option for all members will be arranged.

Serving on the MSMAC board is a wonderful opportunity to help shape the future of our group while gaining leadership experience and working closely with an incredible group of volunteers!

Thanksgiving thoughts

What an October we have had! We went to so many farms with so many great moms and kids! We had extra tot explorer days and play dates, not forgetting the Halloween egg hunt, a genius idea from Kelly K. and organized by Lisa H.

As fall starts to wind-down we turn our thoughts to Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a new tradition for me (we obviously don’t celebrate it in the UK although the trades picked up on Black Friday!) so I’ve had to learn the history and follow others traditions until we made our own as a family. One that I love, especially for kids, is a Thanksgiving tree. Every day you write down what you are thankful for on a leaf and pin it to the Thanksgiving Tree. Everyone in the family can join in! What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?

As I take on the presidency I’m thankful to all of you supporting me on this adventure. I’m thankful for all the moms who are able to organize play dates and events. I’m thankful to the board for their time and input. I’m thankful that we are all kind and have understanding and support for each other. Looking at our holiday philanthropy campaign – SCCAP’s Support Circles Program – to provide Christmas gifts for families in need, I’m totally in awe of this group, and grateful, for the fast uptake of individuals. There are still some individuals on the list, each has a wish list to give an idea of the kind of present they would like to receive, it’s up to you what you give. All gifts need to be delivered to Esther W. by November 30th. Thank you for your generosity.

While researching Thanksgiving I came across this cartoon on YouTube. It explains the meaning of Hakarat Hatov, a Jewish term which means to see the good. I know there are a few of us out there that need hakarat hatov! https://youtu.be/Oej32gXQhnI

If you are struggling with thankfulness this year, I highly recommend watching this video (4 mins) about Nick Vujicic who is a motivational, spiritual speaker for adults and kids. Warning, it makes me cry every time I watch it and I’ve watched it a lot!

Event – Thanksgiving 5K

As previously emailed, we are going to hold a Thanksgiving 5K on Black Friday. As soon as we have defined the route we will email with further info. The idea is to bring food items to donate to a local food bank, we are obtaining a list of food items that they frequently need.

Happy Birthday to these November Birthday moms!
